Abstract

The biblical book of Exodus narrates, in a fantastic way, the story of the birth of a people: an entire population of slaves running away from oppression to freedom, and the difficulties of their journeys through the wilderness towards the Promised Land, in a period of great miracles and divine interventions. The setting is a harsh desert, and the choice of the route appears to be contingent upon geographic, environmental, strategic and security factors. The forty-year journey through the desert seems to be a necessary test for that generation, and left deep marks in the history of Israel.
