Abstract

This article aims at analysing the novel A Muralha, written by Dinah Silveira de Queiróz in the light of Lukacsian theory of the classical form of the historical novel, whose characteristics encompass a large historical period; historical characters, which appear as minor figures; historical facts; and, generally a third person narrator. This article also considers what is known as ‘mediocre hero’ in Lukacsian theory. Taking into account these characteristics, this article seeks to prove that A Muralha is representative of the classical historical novel genre in Brazil.
