Abstract

This study discusses cultural categories of identity in Orlando's portrait, in Virginia Woolf's novel Orlando: Uma Biografia. The analysis of the character in relation to the intersections between nation, class and gender shows that there is a conflict in the work, since it presents a text that is both transgressive and normative, a fact that should be problematized due to its implications in cultural studies involving identity and emancipatory policies.
